T's Tips Puppy Repair

Puppy

So, you got that puppy! Awesome!! Then the teething and chewing on things that should NOT be chewed on. This happened to me recently when I let my puppy stay at another house for the night. Well, she found a tasty cabinet and now I need to do some free repairs and painting. No Worries! It's easy.

All we need are some simple supplies; Freezer Bag, the filler material such as Wood Bondo (I have no preference as they all seem to work well for me), 100 & 200 Grit sandpaper, Puddy Knife & Orbital Sander (Need tools? HoneyDo Rental List for a package deal). Now Fill, Smooth & Sand. DONE!!

Check out this website for a detailed process.

This week the editor Richard Leon will be discussing Companion Gardening. Richard loves growing herbs and vegetables in his back yard for cooking. Often you can find him rummaging for herbs to add into his sauces or meats.

We all have certain folks we get along better with.

Just like humans, plants have other plants they get along with. Crazy right? Well plants are very much alive and they need every opportunity to grow and be the best they can be in life. Just like Humans are directly influenced by their 5 closest friends, plants are heavily influenced by those around them. It’s not good to just plant 1 or 2 of a species. Nor is it good to just plant one type of plant in your garden. Deep thought should come into play on what type of plants you want to grow. One method of planting is called Companion Planting.

When did companion planting start?

It started with Native Americans. They created a method of planting as old as their history. They call it the Three Sisters Method. Three types of plants work together to help each other while growing, corn, beans and squash. Corn grows tall and provides a pole for the bean vine to grow upon. Beans help fertilize the soil. Squash provides cover for all three plant’s roots. For more information on how to plant a Three Sister Garden check out this article here.

What plants work with other plants?

Good question. There are many sources online including the Old Farmer’s Almanac with plenty of answers. Currently I am growing a container garden and I have several companion plants growing together. I have several plants growing with my tomatoes that help them flourish.

On a final note:
There is a book originally published in 1975 called “Carrots Love Tomatoes”. It is a bible for those who really want to do a deep dive into companion planting. This book the editor intends to read and explain the contents in detail. Many articles have been written about this book and it can be purchased on Amazon or any online garden store.
Happy Gardening!
